Postgraduate Programme Offered :
M.Sc Forestry (Wildlife Management Specialization)
The M.Sc. Forestry (Wildlife Management Specialization) is a multidisciplinary postgraduate programme aimed at developing skilled professionals capable of addressing contemporary challenges in wildlife conservation, forest ecosystem management, and environmental sustainability. The programme aligns with national priorities on biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development while promoting scientific competence, ethical environmental values, and field-based learning.
The curriculum integrates principles of forestry, wildlife science, ecology, and environmental management to provide a comprehensive understanding of forest landscapes as dynamic ecological systems supporting diverse flora and fauna. Emphasis is placed on conservation biology, wildlife habitat management, ecosystem restoration, landscape ecology, and sustainable utilization of natural resources within an environmental governance framework.
Designed in accordance with outcome-based education and experiential learning approaches recommended by accreditation bodies, the programme combines theoretical instruction with intensive field exposure, laboratory training, research methodology, and technology-enabled learning. Students are trained in modern conservation tools including geospatial technologies, biodiversity assessment techniques, ecological monitoring, environmental impact analysis, and climate change adaptation strategies.
The programme promotes interdisciplinary research, community engagement, and participatory conservation practices, encouraging learners to integrate traditional ecological knowledge with scientific management approaches. Special focus is given to protected area management, human–wildlife coexistence, conservation policy, environmental legislation, and ecosystem services valuation.
Graduates of the programme are equipped to contribute effectively to wildlife conservation agencies, forest departments, research institutions, environmental consultancies, non-governmental organizations, and academic sectors. The programme supports capacity building for leadership in conservation planning, sustainable forest management, biodiversity protection, and nature-based environmental solutions at regional, national, and global levels.
